Then they opened up the doors further by making Greenlight. Steam gradually let on indie games, a trickle at first, but it did get people like me to join, after a friend bought me Recettear. I used to jokingly complain that there were no Final Fantasy, Castlevania, or Mega Man games on Steam, so that's why I used to feel that Steam was still no place for someone with my tastes. The eXceed trilogy of shmups, its indie localizer/publisher had to sign on the major publisher Capcom just to be able to publish on Steam. Like, y'know, Cave Story or La-Mulana, that sort of stuff. Used to be that niche indie games were few on Steam. Why are those games here? isn't it steam that decides which game to be displayed? Steam used to do this, but people got pretty annoyed that Steam had a very restrictive catalogue. Ok but that still don't answer my question. Said games sell and thus they're worthwhile to list here. Developers decide to list their games on Steam.
